InformINIT update is on the way After some serious health problems that kept him from updating InformINIT for quite a while, Dan Frakes is hard at work on the next version of his comprehensive guide to the System Folder. The new version will include over 2000 additions and edits, several new topic areas, updated info for Mac OS 8.5 through 8.6, and a some possible surprise additions.

Epson Twain driver for ES-1000 Epson Tech Support told Klaus Ottmann that "Currently we do not have a TWAIN driver that will support the ES-1000C connected to G3/BW Macs," However, Klaus found a Twain driver 3.10, which is posted to work with the Perfection 636 scanners, also worked fine for his ES-1000C. Otherwise, Epson suggested using Scantastic or SilverFast scanning software. (See MacFixIt Report on SCSI cards for more background.)

Wacom fixes A reader claims that a forthcoming v.4.3 of the Wacom Intuos driver wiill fix a wake-from-sleep crash associated with the current 4.2 version. Meawnhile, Dick Lester notes that there is a Mac 2.6.4b1 Wacom driver (for ArtPad, ArtZ II, etc.) on the Wacom ftp site that appears to fix at least some of the previously reported problems with Mac OS 8.6.

"It takes guts" email hoax We have received a couple of emails regarding a newvariant of the "It Takes Guts to Say 'Jesus' email hoax. A Stiller Research web page confirms that, despite the new text, it is still a hoax. (Thanks, Susan Lesch of MacVirus.)

The Macworld Expo Hess Events List has started listing the parties and events for the upcoming Expo in New York on July 20-23.

Apple wins design awards BusinessWeek announced its Annual Design Awards. It awarded Apple one Gold Design Award (for iMac) and three Silver Design Awards (for the PowerBook G3, the Power Macintosh G3, and the Apple booth at the Macworld trade show).
