QuickTime QD3D oddity: a follow-up Regarding the "funny" description of the QuickTime QD3D file in Conflict Catcher (as noted last time), Miguel Chavez replies: "This is a reference to the fact that QuickDraw 3D is on it's way out since Apple embraced OpenGL. If you were a system component that was being shown the door, but then at the last minute pulled back in for one last service tour, wouldn't you be confused too? Those blue donuts refer to the new blue Q QuickTime logo." Jim O'Hearn adds that the file "allows you to play QuickDraw 3D file format 3DMF within QuickTime on Power Macs only." The file should be installed in the QuickTime Extensions folder.

We'll have a update soon."

Update: VillageTronic just released v1.2.3 of the VT QuickTime Accelerator, which fixes this glitch. The support page also has links to some useful FAQs.

Although this appears to rule out running 8.6 on a 680x0 Mac upgraded with a PPC processor, several readers (most recently Jeff Strong) have reported success in doing so.
