Quicken Print dialog box glitch: a work-around We have previously mentioned the issue of the Print dialog box appearing behind the Task Bar in some cases in Quicken 7 and Quicken 98. An Intuit web page describes yet a work-around: toggle the Task bar on and off. (Thanks, Enzo Balcaceres.)

Grolier installs files it should not? Charlie Downs found that the 1998 Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia 1-Disk Edition CD (which is shipped as a freebie by Intuit with MacinTax 98) replaces OS 8.5's QuickTime extension (v 2.02) with an earlier version, and installs Object Support Library in the Extensions Folder. Fred Kolter adds: "It should be mentioned that the Read Me for Grolier's clearly states it will do this and offers instructions for doing a manual install which completely avoids the problem."

Initio MacNotes and card upgrades Initio has a MacNotes web page that, among more general news, covers compatibility issues with their SCSI cards and the new G3/BW Macs. Of particular note: "All Miles UW products that have been shipping since Jan 15th, 1999 can be upgraded with the boot-enabled firmware (SIM). Current owners of Miles UW products (i.e. products that were shipped prior to Jan 15th, 1999), will have to upgrade their card to allow it to boot in the new G3 systems. There is a nominal charge of $50 for the current owners to upgrade/exchange their cards to the new cards with the new SIM. The upgrade program will go into effect by mid-March 1999." (Thanks, Joshua Ochs.)

Demo Days canceled Avariety of web sites and news sources confirm that the upcoming Apple Demo Days (Jan 23, 30 and Feb 6) have been canceled, apparently because the high demand for Apple's new products have left to little inventory for the stores to demo and sell. They will supposedly be rescheduled.
