FWB software and G3/BW Macs FWB has a web page on G3/BW compatibility with FWB software. See also previous MacFixIt item for related information.

ATI extension and Initio Mile card issues Joshua Ochs found that the ATI Graphics Accelerator would get disabled at startup if he had a Initio Miles card (Bios version 1.06) installed. He linked it either to OpenTpt Remote Access extension (confirming previous reports) or MacsBug being installed. PowerBook G3 series burns? The PowerBook Zone and MacInTouch cover claims that the PowerBook G3 Series Macs may, in rare instances, "go dead, smoke, or completely start to burn soon after a user plugs in to AC power."

Windows spoofing security bug Georgi Guninski describes an apparent "windows spoofing bug security bug" in Netscape's Communicator that tricks users into thinking they are browsing on a trusted site when they are actually on a "hostile" site. This could result in the user transmitting private data to a site other than what is intended. He expects Netscape to issue a patch within the month. (Thanks, Thurletta Brown.)

UMAX ftp site Several readers report having trouble downloading driver updates from the U.S. UMAX ftp site. You might have more success by trying the UK site. While readers have reported that the software worked, Philip De Simone warns: "UMAX (USA) has told me that the software at the UK site is not the same as at the US site and that they do not support the former."

Lode Runner Patch There's a patch for Lode Runner 2.

Acrobat Reader mirror site PDFzone.COM is mirroring the preview version of Acrobat Reader 4.0.

iMacs at Costco Readers have spotted iMacs on sale at Costco stores in Massachusetts and New York. They appear to be Revision B for $999.
