G4 processor coming A MacWEEK article notes that Apple previewed the new G4 processor at the WWDC. It should be in new Macs by within a year. It contains the "AltiVec technology designed for processor-intensive applications such as multimedia and heavy-duty scientific calculations."
FireWire card for new PowerBooks A MacWEEK article reports that Newer Technology will ship FireWire 2 Go, a FireWire CardBus card for 300-MHz G3 PowerBooks, in late June for $250.
ARA Client install glitch Nathan Raymond warns that, if you are not careful, the new ARA Client Only 3.1.3 will install the Client version over an existing Server version. If if you select to Cancel at one point, Nathan found that it continued anyway.

WWDC reaction The theme of the news and commentary following Monday's WWDC keynote address emphasized the consistency of Apple's software strategy. For once, Apple did not used the WWDC to introduce a major new direction. Most saw this as a positive. I agree. Apple is at last on track to deliver what it has promised. As for the PowerBooks, they were not nearly as "revolutionary" a change as January's G3 desktop Macs were. But I still want one.
