Odd sleep phenomenon for multiple-user Power Mac G5s

MacFixIt reader Charles Ridley reports a reproducible bug when one user is logged in and a G5 is put to sleep, then woken up.

After the current user log-in window appears and you select switch users, the computer will go to sleep after 21 seconds. It does not matter weather you are working or just sitting there looking at the clock.

Ridley writes "After many calls to Apple with no fix, I took it to an authorized dealer with no results (those poor folks had my computer for two days and could not even reproduce the problem). Then I took my unit to the Corte Madera Genius Bar and we tested my G-5 and reproduced the bug immediately. Just for fun one of the geniuses suggested we try it on other units--we tried it on all of the G-5's in the store and reproduced the bug in every one we tested (three of them).

"Here are the specific parameters that will consistently reproduce problem:

"In System preferences, go to System accounts, click Accounts, then go to log-in options and check: "Display Login window as list of users" and enable: "fast user switching."

"Next, go to Security and check "Require log-in to wake form sleep or screen saver." With one user logged-in, put computer to sleep. Wake up; when the log-in window appears, click "switch users." Log-in another user. Wait 21 seconds--Sleep!

"If you wish to play with the energy saver, you will still get this bug even with never selected for sleep and display."
