Odd sleep phenomenon for multiple-user Macs (#2)

Odd sleep phenomenon for multiple-user Macs (#2)

CNET staff

Yesterday we reported on a bug that occurs on multiple-user Mac OS X systems when one user is logged in and a Mac is put to sleep, then woken up. After the current user log-in window appears and you select switch users, the computer will go to sleep after 21 seconds. It does not matter weather you are working or just sitting there looking at the clock.

A number of readers have since corroborated this issue, and offered some suggestions:

  • Pat Bernardi writes "There is a workaround for this problem: activate the screen saver before putting the computer to sleep."
  • MacFixIt reader Craig writes "My workaround is to always go to User switch menu > Login Window... and sleep from the login window. No more narcoleptic naps."
  • Mike adds "The only workaround (I know) is to log in as the person who last went to sleep, then switch users."
