Norton LiveUpdate: Saving the Updater: an easier alternative;<br>

Downloadable updates coming Last time, we described a method for saving the Norton Updater file before the LiveUpdate automatically deletes it. This can allow you to run the update without using LiveUpdate. Several readers sent us the same simpler alternative:
Go to the LiveUpdate Preferences folder. Open it before selecting to do a LiveUpdate. After the initial download is completed and before the Update actually decompresses and installs the updated files, Option-drag the file(s) out of the folder. You will now have a copy of the Updater file(s) that will not be deleted.

Kelly Davies adds: "According to Symantec's tech notes, LiveUpdate does not work if you are behind a firewall" So it seems likely that Symantec will eventually make standard updaters available for download.

Update: Michael Downing (of Symantec) informs us: "Symantec would like to answer a common question that Norton Utilities for Macintosh v5/Norton Antivirus for Macintosh v6 customers have about updates to these packages. "Live Update" is an installed component of both packages that will allow updates to be downloaded through the user's Internet connection without using a browser. This doesn't mean that "Live Update" will be the only way to get these updates. We will continue to post downloadable patchers/updaters as we have in the past. This will allow a user who prefers this method to get the updates. We will make downloadable patches available soon after the LU patches."
