Switzerland, the nation that gave us army knives and absolutely no popular musicians of note, is bestowing another gift -- a glimmer of hope that the Nokia N9 will be heading to the UK.

A listing for the MeeGo-powered mobile has popped up on Orange's official Swiss website, giving an expected launch date of 15 September. That's no guarantee that the N9 will be coming to Blighty, but as it pops up in more and more countries, it looks increasingly likely we'll be basking in the N9's warm glow in time for winter.

We suspected at one point that the N9 would never make it across the English Channel -- the UK was omitted from a page on Nokia's website where you could sign up to receive updates on the phone.

We desperately want the N9 to arrive in Blighty, for confusing reasons we don't quite understand.

The Nokia N9 is the first Nokia phone we've been excited about since we once mistook the Nokia N97 for a chocolate bar. We've had a chance to play with it, and we were dead impressed with the slick MeeGo operating system. The catch? Nokia has already said this is the first and last phone that will use MeeGo.

So if you buy it, you'll have to move to a different operating system on your next upgrade. Every moment you spend with the slender N9 will be drenched with melancholy, like a last glorious fortnight spent with your lover, before they embark on a dangerous sea voyage to the rocky island of Obsoletia.

If the N9 does make it to the UK, would you be willing to try it? Or does Sea Ray, Nokia's Windows Phone, strike your fancy? Or would you rather see Nokia sail off into the sunset forever? Let us know in the comments section below, or on our Facebook wall.
