Nokia Lumia 900 briefly up for pre-order on Play.com

The Lumia 900 made a very brief appearance over at Play.com, hinting it may well be getting a UK release after all.

Nokia's Lumia 900, the big brother to the Lumia 800, may well be coming to the UK after all. The top-notch Windows Phone briefly popped up for pre-order over at Play.com, although it's since disappeared from the online retailer.

There was no date given for the Mango-running smartie, and no price, but until it was pulled you could choose to be notified when it does go on sale.

Before we get too excited, let's remember we've been here before. Just a couple of weeks ago the 900 made an appearance on the Carphone Warehouse site, with the release date listed as June. The page has since been pulled, with Carphone claiming it was put up "in error". But surely two such slips in as many weeks is more than a coincidence?

"We are really chuffed with the CES awards and reception that the Lumia 900 has received," a Nokia spokesperson told us, "but as you know the only availability we have announced on the 900 is in North America." So that's a 'not yet'. We're still to hear back from Play.com.

The Lumia 900 was announced at CES in Las Vegas last month, and thanks to its 4G LTE tech, looked unlikely to reach the UK. It's the first Nokia Windows Phone to make a US appearance, and like the 800 it features a 1.4GHz processor and 8-megapixel camera. The screen is larger than the 800's though, getting a bump from 3.7 inches to 4.3.

We're not expected to get anything resembling 4G in the UK until 2015, according to Ofcom, though BT and Everything Everywhere's trial in Cornwall has been extended until the summer, so here's hoping the networks work something out between themselves soon. If the 900 does get a UK release, it'll be a toned-down 3G version.
