Nokia Lumia 800 getting volume fix update

Nokia's reportedly crafted another software update for the Lumia 800, with the latest release expected to address problems with the phone's volume control.

The Verge reckons that the latest update is catchily-dubbed version 12072, and is set to appear in some parts of the world this week.

The update follows an earlier fix that addressed battery woes, but in a cruel twist, it looks like that last refresh introduced some volume weirdness, with ringtones reportedly playing way too loudly for the first second that the phone is ringing.

The update is arriving in some regions of the world this week, and also allows the Lumia 800's camera app to detect 50 or 60Hz flickering from electronic lights when using flicker reduction.

Like the last update, this one includes some new power management goodies, with improved charger detection reckoned being one such benefit. This update hasn't appeared on Nokia's official blog yet, so take this news with a little pinch of salt.

It's hard to know what to make of the Lumia 800's frequent updates. On the one hand, it would be nice if the phone had arrived in a more polished state, without the need for a series of software boosts to bolster performance.

But then again, reading the wails of despair from Samsung Galaxy S2 owners who can't get the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update on their mobiles, I wonder if perhaps frequent, incremental updates is actually a rather healthy approach.

I reckon the Lumia 800 is the finest Windows Phone device around, so as far as I'm concerned, the more Nokia can do to keep it stable and working reliably, the better.
