Nokia stated that it's "very interested" in tablets, at the launch of its flagship Lumia 925 phone .

While Nokia wouldn't offer specific details on any upcoming products, Jo Harlow, executive vice president of smart devices for Nokia, explained, "We're very interested in tablets and that's an area we're looking at."

Exciting stuff but Nokia is playing its cards very close to the chest. Harlow went on to state, "I don't have any product news I can share."

Nokia is the only major phone manufacturer that hasn't also entered the tablet market -- excluding its Internet Tablet range we saw over five years ago -- so all eyes have been on the Finnish firm to produce a slate at some point. Numerous rumors have indicated that Nokia has been working on a tablet , and that its been experimenting with different form factors .

Given Nokia's existing allegiance with Microsoft, any tablet it does launch will almost certainly run Windows 8 or Windows RT. Although, Nokia Chief Executive Stephen Elop has previously discussed the benefits of Android in a 7-inch device.

At Tuesday's launch event, Nokia took the covers off its latest flagship, the Lumia 925. It's the first of Nokia's Lumia range to be made with metal, instead of the polycarbonate body you'll find on the Lumia 920. To demonstrate the camera's multi-shot feature, Harlow took to the stage in her college basketball gear and performed a slam-dunk -- a brave move in front of a room full of journalists. We went hands on with the new device, so check our first take for more information.

Does a Nokia tablet excite you or do you think it should stick just to phones? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
