Nokia and Monster partnering for headset launch

The Finns are teaming up with Dr. Dre's favourite headphone brand to make an accessory line, starting with the Nokia Purity HD Headset.

Well what do we have here? Looks very much like a leaked poster of an upcoming Nokia headset, letting slip the Finns' partnership with headphone brand Monster to us. Looks very much like that indeed.

The product shown is named as the Nokia Purity HD Stereo Headset by Monster, in tiny text in the bottom right of the image. And judging from the graffiti-strewn approach, Nokia's looking to inject some much-needed cool to its brand image. Either that or this is a very early proof that someone's hastily scribbled notes on, but we doubt that.

Pocketnow managed to lay its mitts on the image and it looks like Nokia is aiming to cash in on Monster's 'cool' factor by making it appear as if its own staid brand message has been vandalised by the headphone brand. Which is a brave approach, considering it's basically admitting that Nokia is boring.

A second poster reads "Head Turning Technology" which has been changed to "Head Thumping Techno Bass." See what they did there?

What's less clear is how this sits with Monster's recent tie-in with HTC to produce Beats-branded smartphones. But if it sticks to making just accessories for Nokia, and not actual handsets, that might not violate HTC's terms.

We're sure to find out more at Nokia World, which kicks off in London on 26 October. Nokia is also expected to out its first Windows Phone handsets, thanks to its tie-in with, er… Microsoft, one of the least 'cool' and 'street' brands out there. Oh well, you can't win them all. And as long as it produces decent hardware, we don't care how achingly streetwise the company's marketing is, or not as the case may be. But perhaps that's just us.
