Nokia 3720 Classic: Rugged phone for farmers, ladies and farmer-ladies

Nokia announced the 3720 Classic, a ruggedised phone that promises to stand up to the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune -- like being run over by a combine harvester

Nokia's going for a unique niche with its new 3720 Classic ruggedised phone: farmers, clumsy ladies and people who hit their phone with golf clubs. That's us in a nutshell.

The phone that was cruelly abused in a series of videos on Nokia's blog last week has been officially announced -- complete with bizarre 'lifestyle' press shots -- and we're looking forward to a summer launch.

The 3720 Classic is sealed to prevent dust or sand ruining your chats, and promises 'exceptional' battery life, according to Nokia. It will sport a 56mm (2.2-inch) screen, an LED torch and Nokia's sat-nav system, Nokia Maps, which will be pre-loaded on a 1GB microSD memory card.

After a few months of coddling the iPhone -- the phone that will break if it goes near sweat -- we're feeling a little ruggedness might be a good thing. It's festival season, after all. All we want now is a phone that floats.

Nokia says that if you're into phone torture, the 3720 Classic will cost you around €125 (£110).
