Nintendo Wii U Premium Pack slashed to £179, save £120
The price of the Nintendo Wii U has been slashed to £179 by Amazon and Argos after Nintendo revealed disastrous sales.
Fancy a button-bashing bargain? The price of the Nintendo Wii U has been slashed to £179 by Amazon and Argos after Nintendo revealed disastrous sales for the console.
Both the basic white 8GB Wii U Starter Pack and the black 32GB Wii U Premium Pack with Nintendo Land now cost £179.99. That's a saving of £120.00 on the 32GB console or £70 on the 8GB model.
It's not the lowest price the Wii U has reached: Asda slashed the price of the Basic Wii U pack to £149 this summer.
Nintendo already makes a loss on the Wii U consoles in the hope of making its money back through game sales. But sales have fallen woefully short of Nintendo's plans: the company has admitted it will sell less than a third of the nine million consoles it had hoped to shift. Last year, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata admitted, "We have not been able to solidly communicate the product value of Wii U to our consumers yet, which has been a grand challenge for us."
That grand challenge has led to a disastrous year for Nintendo, including an eye-watering £147m loss. Things are so bad, Nintendo is planning to do things differently from hereon out, perhaps finally embracing smart phones and tablets.
Oh, and while we're on the subject of price cuts, Zavvi has knocked twenty quid off the Xbox One.
