Nexus 4 phones sold out at Google Play

Both the 8GB and 16GB versions of the unlocked LG phone are out of stock at Google's online store.

Consumers searching for the Nexus 4 smartphone will no longer be able to grab one through Google Play.

The store currently shows both the 8GB and 16GB models as out of inventory. A note tells buyers to "please check back soon." However, a "trusted source" told The Verge that this is the end of the line for the Nexus 4 and that Google has no plans to restock the device.

Last month, Google slashed the price of the Nexus 4 by $100 in an effort to rid itself of inventory.

The unlocked phone is still available through Google Play stores in other countries as well as through third-party retailers such as Best Buy and Amazon. But if reports of a Nexus 5 are true, the Nexus 4's days may be numbered.

A rumor first popped this past March claiming that Google was already checking out prototypes for a Nexus 5, including one from LG codenamed "Megalodon." A May report from Korea Times said that LG and Google had met to discuss a new Nexus handset.

More recent tidbits have revealed photos with an inside peek of an alleged Nexus 5. A report from a Vietnamese blog site served up a few possible specs for the new phone, including a 5.2-inch screen and a Snapdragon 800 processor.
