Newer's NUpowr G3 software for the 1400: looking good

CNET staff
From Bob Moriarity of MacCPU: "Newer has released a new beta version of their NUpowr G3 software for the PowerBook 1400. We have tested the software and been in contact with customers who have used it. The software extends battery life, resolves the sleep problem, reduces heat and allows formatting/use of PC floppies. In short, it seems to be a winner. More information can be found at our Web site.
Update: Not everyone is happy with this update. Warren Nagourney writes: "I just installed the NUpowr 1.0.2b4 software. Prior to installing the new software, my PB1400/216 worked flawlessly except for the usual occasional glitches upon awakening from sleep. After switching to the new NUpowr software (I originally used 1.0.1), my battery life fell to about 1 hour even.

The worst part of my experience is the sleep activity of 1400. I ran it till the thing shut off automatically (and went to sleep) and then plugged in a charger and tried to awaken it. It wouldn't wake up, no matter what I did! After pushingvarious combinations of the reset and on/off keys, I finally got it up and immediately reinstalled the older software. There are still problems with sleep, but at least it wakes up!"
