According to initial reader reports, the newly shipping PowerBook G4 (867 MHz-1GHz) are the first Macintosh models to include a bootable DVD-ROM that also includes Software Restore data, while the new iBooks (700-800 MHz) still ship with a set of CDs. Andrew McNaughton writes:

"The new PowerBook G4 (1 GHz/867 MHz) is the first Apple computer to ship with all of the included software on a bootable DVD-ROM.The DVD-ROM boots into the Mac OS X Installer and not to the desktop. The DVD-ROM has all the restore capabilities previously delivered on several Software Restore CD-ROMs.

"The new iBooks continue to be supplied with multiple CD-ROMs."
