New notable Apple TIL files

Three new TIL files from Apple. They overlap with information presented here at MacFixIt before, but add some new information or offer a convenient summary:

#30371: Mac OS 8.1: Extended Volume Format and Password Security The current version of Password Security will not work properly if installed on a Mac OS Extended Volume. If you format a Mac OS Extended Volume with Drive Setup, Password Security will be removed automatically. However, if you create a Mac OS Extended Volume by selecting "Erase Disk..." from the Special menu in the Finder, the drive will still contain the Password Security protection although it won't function.

This could present a problem in the future when updating the hard drive driver with Drive Setup. Drive Setup will see the drive as locked and the "Update Driver" option will be grayed out. To overcome this, you will need to install Password Security, turn it on, and turn it back off. This should permanently remove it and allow Drive Setup to update the driver.

To ensure that none of these problems arise, make sure you turn off Password Security using the control panel before converting a volume to the Mac OS Extended Volume Format.
