A new 8-inch Nexus tablet, with an Intel Bay Trail processor inside, could be on the way from Asus this year.

The rumours come from Digitimes, quoting sources involved in the "supply chain" side of manufacturing.

The Nexus 8 is tipped to be launched sometime after February, which fits Intel's recent announcement that Bay Trail for tablets would be out in the second quarter of this year.

The move from a 7-inch form factor to an 8-inch one is rumoured to be related to sluggish demand for the 2013 Nexus 7 compared to earlier models.

Asus already has an 8-inch Intel-powered tablet coming out in Australia — the Windows-based Vivo Tab Note 8 revealed at CES 2014.

Certainly, Asus' hardware relationship with Google has been a successful one for both parties and, whatever the screen size, we'll be surprised if we don't see the company involved in the 'next Nexus'.
