New iPods (iPod Classic, new nano) incompatible with Panther (Mac OS X 10.3.9): Workaround

You can move the library to a Tiger machine to sync.

CNET staff

Apple's newly released iPods -- the iPod Classic and third-generation nano -- are the first iPods to be incompatible with Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Panther). This means that a music library can't be synced from a Panther machine to one of the new iPods.

Fortunately, there's a somewhat kludgy interim solution that involves moving the iTunes music library from a Panther machine to a Tiger machine then syncing, which will allow you to at least move your current music library to one of the new iPods, though future syncs will prove difficult.
