New HP DeskJet driver: a "universal" DeskJet solution

HP DeskJet 1220C series 3.2 printer driver has been released specifically for the 1220C, 1220Cse, 1220Cxi printers. However, according to a MacFixIt Forums posting: "It's a sort of universal inkjet driver that is supposed to work with all of HP's newer USB inkjet printers...It will work with DeskJet 610, 670 and 690 series printers, so Mac OS 9 users are no longer stranded." Gene Steinberg confirms (and we confirmed as well) that the Read Me file that comes with the driver software indicates that the driver indeed supports a wide range of DeskJet printers (so why have the confusing name and why is the driver not listed on the Web site for these additional printers?).
