New Facebook HQ suffers mysterious thefts
Even before Facebook moves into its new Menlo Park, Calif., headquarters, someone has allegedly been creeping onto the site and stealing copper wiring.
There are those who have claimed Google stole something from Facebook this week. You know, the design for a social network.
But it seems the allegations of thieving may not have stopped there.
For at the site of the new Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif., police are reportedly investigating mysterious disappearances.
The Bay City News Service reports that there have been three alleged thefts from the former Sun/Oracle campus, which is being remodeled to allow for more internal skateboarding.
What are the alleged thieves after? Some strange souvenirs from what might be Mark Zuckerberg's new desk? Some secret plans that might have been left lying around during a company walk-through?
Not quite. It appears that these three incidents have netted the alleged miscreants $8,500 worth of copper. It seems curious that a company so concerned about security might have allowed thieves so easily into its midst. Wouldn't it be awful if people could just wander into your Farmville homestead and steal sheep so easily?
Though there is currently no information about who might have been responsible for this alleged thieving, might I suggest a line of investigation?
This bears some of the troubling hallmarks of the elderly lady who was searching for scrap metal, chopped through some cable, and managed to turn the Internet off in Georgia and Armenia.
Could it be that she has expanded her exploits? Or could it be that there might a copycat criminal in Silicon Valley's midst, ready to strike at its core?
One can only hope that the local coppers apprehend the alleged copper thieves before nightfall.
