Worming Into Apple A slightly dated article in Wired News tells the amazing story of Ron Avitzur, who sneaked into Apple's California HQ for six months to write a software program that, through luck and hard work, is still included on every Mac sold today. "Unemployed and living on savings, Avitzur worked 12-hour days, seven days a week, to create Graphing Calculator in the unlikely hope that Apple would bundle it with new computers. [...] Meanwhile, Avitzur and Robbins worked in vacant offices, avoided Apple security and gained access to the campus by tailgating employees as they showed up for work." More.

iPods being used to store medical images eWeek reports that radiologists are turning to iPods to deal with the hassles of managing medical images. "Two radiologists recently developed open-source software, called OsiriX, to display and manipulate complex medical images on the popular portable devices called iPods. The most current version of OsiriX, which speeds up some processes and fixes crash-causing bugs, was released on Tuesday." More.
