New and Noteworthy: Windows Vista booting on a Mac; Decoding your Mac's serial number; more
Windows Vista booting on a Mac Gizmodo has posted pictures of Windows Vista booted on an iMac. "Word from the OSx86 Project is that someone who goes by the forum handle AirmanPika has successfully gotten Windows Vista to install on an iMac. Since Vista is still only in beta (and won?t be available until early 2007 for consumers), it does seem a little silly to go to all the trouble to getting it to run, especially when you consider that the current method of installation requires the deletion of the Mac OS X partition." Decoding your Mac's serial number ZDNet reports on a new site from Chipmunk International that allows you to decode your Mac's serial number, reaping various bits of information. "Simply enter your SN into their online form and it will tell you all kinds of facts about your Mac including: name, model, production factory, production year, week and number during that week. The site supports all Apple products including computers, laptops, monitors, printers and batteries." More.
Blizzard on Boot Camp, Future Mac OS X Dev There has been much speculation as of late regarding what Boot Camp means for Mac OS X game developers, who might not be enticed to port popular Windows titles. Blizzard, makers of the hugely popular Warcraft line of games, is one company that plans to stick with Mac development. Inside Mac Games quotes a Blizzard rep: "We have a recognized track record of native Mac OS support, and we have no plans to break with that tradition. We understand that our Mac player base prefers native software whenever possible, and our cross-platform development practice addresses that." More.
