Various Mac OS X browsers exploitable by vulnerability The winner of $10,000 at the CanSecWest conference has successfully exploited a Mac OS X machine through the use of a malicious web page. Monsters and Critics reports "Testing of the exploit so far shows that Safari, Camino, and Firefox are all vulnerable. Patches and security settings are being debated heavily online. Some claim the systems were left open and the proper patches were not in place. According to CanSecWest, the systems were patched and updated to current standards. The bulk of the patches released in the last few days were not on the systems, and if they were, it would have mattered little. The exploit supposedly works regardless." More.

Vista Sales Disappoint Microsoft And Cheer Apple IT Director points out some good news for Apple at the expense of Microsoft. "In the US, 14,811,000 PCs were shipped, indicating only 2.9% growth in PC sales in the first quarter. In other words the impact on PC sales of Vista appears to have far lower in the US. But actually that 2.9% figure is not what it seems, because 1.15% of that growth is attributable directly to Apple. The sale of Apple Macs grew by 30% in the quarter as they have in quarter after quarter for quite a while now. In other words Vista made no competitive dent whatsoever in the sale of Macs?and that very bad news for Microsoft." More.
