The real nature of Cingular's iPhone gamble Writing for Computerworld, David Haskin speculates that Cingular gambling with a hefty investment in the iPhone in an attempt to take customers away from Verizon and Sprint. "Clearly Cingular is trying to buy market share with iPhone -- it's paying big-time to grab customers away from Verizon Wireless, Sprint and other carriers. In the cellular business, the cost of acquiring customers is a key metric used to determine a company's financial success. Expect Cingular's acquisition costs to spike after iPhone is released." Symantec unveils IM archiving and backup reporting Symantec has announced Symantec Enterprise Vault 7.0, an e-mail, instant message and content archiving application. The software supports Apple's Mac Entourage e-mail and Safari Web browser, as well as Microsoft Outlook and all major iterations of instant messaging software, both public and corporate. More.
