The Firefox story eWeek tells the story of Firefox, the browser that arose out of a teenager's attempt to counteract the bloat of the Mozilla suite. "With its strong feature set, focus on usability and adherence to standards, Firefox did something that many large software vendors have failed to do?take market share away from Microsoft and even force Microsoft to change strategies and begin paying attention to Web browsers again. According to recent data, Internet Explorer's market share is now below 80 percent, with much of that drop going to new Firefox convertees." More.

An ExpressCard adapter that accepts a PCCard (PCMCIA) ZDNet reports on the introduction of an ExpressCard adapter that accepts PCMCIA card. "f you're the owner (or wannabe owner like us) of a new notebook computer ? particularly one from Apple ? that has an ExpressCard slot instead of a PCCard (PCMCIA) slot but you still need to use certain PCCards (maybe because no ExpressCard equivalent exists), then it appears as though your prayers have finally been answered. Today, via email, I received an announcement from Duel Systems that: The new adapter allows customers who have purchased laptops with 34mm or 54mm ExpressCard ports to continue to use existing PCMCIA and CardBus cards." Netgear launches Apple-TV-competitor PC Advisor reports that Netgear is shipping its Digital Entertainer HD (EVA8000) device in the US, just as Apple begins to ship its Apple TV. "Similar in size to a standard DVD player, the Digital Entertainer device will be available worldwide in the second quarter of 2007, Netgear confirmed. Digital Entertainer HD is a cross-platform device for streaming digital content over home 802.11n networks to HD home entertainment systems. The $399 system works with Windows and Mac, network storage devices, and USB media devices and can stream media from sites such as YouTube and Flickr. It will play movies acquired at BitTorrent's new online film marketplace." More.
