Showtime shows available through iTunes CBS Corporation's Showtime Networks and Apple have announced that cable programming from Showtime, including recent Golden Globe nominees "Sleeper Cell" and "Weeds," is now available on the iTunes Music Store. iTunes now offers more than 50 popular TV shows available for $1.99 per episode for viewing on a computer or iPod. Novell Linux Desktop imitates Mac OS X A preview of Novell Linux Desktop 10 (NLD10) was shown to an audience at the Solutions Linux conference this week in Paris. LinuxEdge has screenshots and movies of some of the more impressive features, many of which mimic Mac OS X. "We have a selection of videos which display a variety of amazing effects through the use of XGL, including transparency, wobbling windows, desktop zooming, a 3D Cube for desktop switching, and a task switcher which displays a preview of windows." Apple applies for touch-sensitive gesture patents ExtremeTech reports that Apple has applied for a patent on several methods of applying gestures to touch-sensitive input devices, possibly implying a touchpad- or touchscreen-enabled product is in the company's future. "The company's patent, 'Gestures for touch sensitive input devices,' features a large illustration of a hand making the "dialing" motion that controls an iPod on a large, blank display. The patent describes several methods for inputting touch commands, including the implementation of floating controls as well as the method of turning a virtual page, such as in an electronic book." VMWare for Intel-based Macs petition Stefan Tilkov has created a petition imploring VMWare to port VMware Workstation for use on Intel-based Macs. The VMWare software allows creation of virtual machines, theoretically allowing a plethora of operating systems to run simultaneously and independently on Intel-based Macs. More.

Yahoo and AOL to allow mail through filters for fee The Washington Post reports that Yahoo and AOL will soon allow marketers to bypass junk mail filters by paying a small fee for each e-mail address that wish to acquire. "In exchange for a payment and a pledge to contact only people who have agreed to receive their messages, the companies will be ensured that their e-mails are not diverted to spam folders and will not have images or Web addresses filtered out."
