Review of Verax GPU ventilator for ATI Radeon 9800 Pro IT Enquirer has posted a review of the Verax GPU ventilator for the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, which is intended to provide quieter operation of the graphics card: "With the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Special Edition comes an on-board fan that makes more noise than most people with a Power Mac G5 are willing to tolerate. German manufacturer of computer cooling systems Verax made a fan specially for the ATO Radeon 98xx series video cards. Most other reviews rave about this fan replacement, but I found there are a few nasty characteristics to be taken into account before you install this ventilator system." More.

"Liquid cooling isn't a feature you'll find on many computers, but Apple likes to stay out in front. Indeed, the company is touting its new liquid-cooled machine as an engineering triumph. Perhaps it is, but it is one born of necessity. The dual microprocessors that drive the new G5 run hot -- so hot that the old cooling system was no longer adequate." More.

The chip is based on the company's longstanding POWER architecture, a dual-core processor used in some of IBM's server lines." More.
