New and Noteworthy: Poll: 17 percent of US adults want to buy an iPhone; IPv6: Ready for Prime Time?; more

Poll: 17 percent of US adults want to buy an iPhone Macworld UK reports on a Harris Interactive poll that surveyed 1,116 adults aged 18-years or more across the US in mid-February. "Although iPhone is not yet a household word, 47 percent of respondents were aware of the product and a full 17 percent expressed interest in purchasing it, which makes for a pretty loud buzz from consumers for a product that isn't yet available." IPv6: Ready for Prime Time? In a four-part series, IT Managment looks at IPv6, and its readiness to meet current market demands, noting that Apple is a key proponent. "Apple Computer's OS X operating system has an open source, UNIX-based architecture, which incorporates the advanced BSD networking functions, including advanced sockets and TCP/IP stack. Support for both IPv6 and IPsec is provided in the OS X 10.2 and later releases" More.

BBC's iPlayer to be Mac Compatible Tech2 reports that The BBC's proposed iPlayer service, offering catch-up TV via the web and cable TV, will be be made Mac compatible and eventually roll out to standard TV sets. "A pilot test of the on-demand service is scheduled to begin with 20,000 UK subscribers later this year. The service will be available only in Britain and users will be able to catch up on any show aired in the last seven days. The trial will have only 50 hours of programming publicly available, but a closed beta will have over 1,000 hours.' More.
