PCIe lane speed comparisons in Mac Pro Bare Feats has an interesting article comparing the speed of an ATI Radeon graphics card when installed in the Mac Pro's PCI Express slots at 4x, 8x and 16x lane speed. The differences in speed between 16x and 8x are surprisingly small. "Based on our testing, your penalty for running a Radeon X1900 XT in an 8 lane slot is only slight compared to the 16 lane slot. But running it in a 4 lane slot scrubs off a significant amount of speed." More.

Woz: Jobs couldn't have done it without me Steve Wozniak is taking more credit -- 22 years later -- for spurring the Mac's initial success in a recent press tour to promote his new book "'Steve (Jobs) had the vision of reaching the masses and changing the world much more than I did, so he deserves credit for that more than anything.' says Wozniak. But Wozniak doesn't believe Jobs could have done it without his own 'special genius,' the special genius that made it possible for Wozniak to conceive of and build a personal computer with a keyboard and a monitor and its own programming language, at a time when computers still had front panels with switches and lights. Greenpeace: "We were booted from Mac Expo" Greenpeace claims in a press release that its volunteers were unfairly booted from the Mac Expo in London this week. The press release states "Greenpeace's high profile 'Green my Apple' stall was shut-down today at the start of the Mac Expo. Organizers of the Mac Expo claimed they had received complaints from unnamed sources. The Greenpeace stall was bought for the three-day expo in an attempt to raise awareness about concerns over the use of toxic chemicals in Apple's products. 'This reaction is totally over-the-top' said Iza Kruszewska, Greenpeace International campaigner at the expo. 'Apple refuses to address our criticisms on their products, both for the recycling and for the use of harmful chemicals. Instead of hiding their head in the sand, Apple should be a world leader in the greening of the electronics industry, not lagging behind,' Mac Expo show organizers have not yet commented. More.
