Apple to music industry: open the vaults A Wired story discusses Apple's efforts to get the music industry to open their music vaults: "the company is on a hunt to find exclusive music, everything from out-of-print singles in music company vaults to songs that have never been pressed onto a CD and even recordings from the estates of deceased artists...labels have less than a third of the music in their vaults available for sale because it's too expensive to distribute such CDs to stores." Non-U.S. buyers finding ways to buy a mini The Ocala Star-Banner writes about UK buyers taking advantage of the Internet to purchase iPod minis, which won't be available in the UK for at least a few months: "For years, European buyers have been breaking down traditional retail distribution channels by using online auction sites to buy small electronics goods for lower prices than available locally...Though they pay more than the U.S. list price, U.K. buyers have been ordering the iPod mini for around GBP200 on eBay in recent days -- or around $349."
