Not all resellers happy about Intel transition An E-Commerce Times reports on dissatisfaction from some Apple resellers in the wake of the Intel processor transition. "A lot of information has not been announced to identify whether or not this will be a seamless change or cause great pain to Apple's core marketplace," said Al Pickard, president of Intuitive Solutions Group, a Markham, Ont., solutions provider. Apple's success due to 'Windows fatigue' IT-Analysis says that much of Apple's current success is due not to the iPod halo effect, but rather a genuine desire from end-users to move away from Windows, and sees Mac market share rising to 10 percent in the near-term. "The prediction by Forbes that Apple will grow its PC market share from 3 percent to 5 percent this year, looks like it will be fulfilled. Remember that the PC market roughly divides in half between the home and the business and Apple is probably not getting any significant growth in the business market. So we can think of Apple as heading towards a 10 percent share of the home market." More.

Yahoo buys Konfabulator Widget App Yahoo confirmed that it has bought Konfabulator, a popular software application that provides a platform for small "widgets" that show news headlines, weather data, and stock information among other things on a user's desktop. BetaNews reports "Konfabulator was first introduced in 2002 and quickly gained a small cult following for its ease of use. Apple liked the idea and included a similar application, called Dashboard, in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. [...] Whereas Pixoria charged $20 USD for Konfabulator, Yahoo intends to give the new version -- to be renamed Yahoo! Widgets -- away for free. Anyone who has purchased the software since May would be eligible for a refund." More.

Businesses like the look of Mac OS X SAP Info reports that Apple's Unix-based Mac OS X operating system is making inroads in the business community, according to a report by market research firm JupiterMedia. "Joe Wilcox, a senior analyst at Jupiter and author of the report, explained that large businesses with expensive Unix systems are opting for Mac OS X when they upgrade for a variety of reasons. OS X is winning out over Linux in some cases, too, said Wilcox, because these businesses would already have Unix expertise on staff. Mac OS X has a good stable of server applications, and it can run traditional Unix applications. In addition, OS X is more viable as a desktop platform, he said." More.

Highlights from NAB Digital Producer has a wrap-up of the major announcements at this year's National Association of Broadcasters conference, where Apple announced several major upgrades to its digital video editing software titles. "On the Mac side, Apple led the bunch with new versions of its top-end creative production tools, including Final Cut Pro , DVD Studio Pro and Shake. I had a chance to sit down for an in depth tour of the new features due in these applications, all of which were nothing short of extraordinary. Final Cut Pro gains hundreds of scalable real-time effects and will come bundled with two external applications that are remarkable in their own right. One is Live Type, the result of Apple's acquisition of Pismo Graphics and its India titling technologies. Live Type provides insane flexibility for generating animated titles. The effects themselves are amazing, as are the program's ease of use and customizability." More.
