New York Times: Apple Tries to Break Out The New York Times is running an editorial entitled "Apple Tries to Break Out," in which a columnist praises the introduction of both the Mac mini and the iPod Shuffle as elements of a new directive at Apple: "Despite Apple's complaints about Microsoft's dominance, one of the biggest drags on Apple's growth has been that its computers generally cost more than similar Windows PC's. But the Mac Mini has a base price hundreds of dollars below what had been Apple's lowest-priced computer. The $499 is misleading because it does not include a monitor, keyboard, mouse and other needed items, but the sticker price may get the attention of some Microsoft users, particularly the millions of people who have been introduced to Apple through iPods."
