Analyst: McAfee Engaged in Scaremongering The Mac Observer reports that Yankee Group analyst Andrew Jaquith says that virus protection developer McAfee's comments on the state of Mac security amount to "scaremongering." The report he is referring to is titled 'The New Apple of Malware's Eye: Is Mac OS X the Next Windows?' "None of the analysts are claiming that Mac OS X is invulnerable to attack, but they do note that McAfee does have a real interest in selling its virus protection software to Mac users, and the report suggests Mac users purchase the company's products." Samsung recalls mobiles after icon stealing PC Pro reports that Samsung has to redesign the user interface for its new Skin mobile phone because the original look copied elements from Mac OS X and MSN Messenger. "The company admitted plagiarizing several graphic elements from both Apple and Microsoft. Apple's TextEdit and Stickies icons and Microsoft's MSN Messenger icon were reproduced almost identically." Macworld: Apple Mac sales exceed expectation Macworld UK reports that Apple's Intel-powered Macs are selling better than expected, according to UBS analyst Ben Reitzes. In a note to clients released yesterday, the analyst notes strong demand for all the Intel Macs, including the Mac mini. "The new Mac minis appear to be off to a stronger than expected start as our checks continue to indicate units are being purchased both as media centres and low-cost entry-level Mac options," Reitzes wrote. Intel's New Processor Brand: Core 2 Duo NewsFactor reports that Intel executives announced that "Core 2 Duo" is the new brand name for the chip giant's upcoming processor families for desktops and laptops. "Intel also said it will call its highest-performing processor -- designed for gamers and computer enthusiasts -- the Core 2 Extreme." More.
