iTab: A third-party iBook-based Tablet Mac A ZDNet blog entry from Jason O'Grady reports on the iTab -- an iBook based tablet configuraiton from a third-party manufactuer. O'Grady writes "The iTab is a slick-looking tablet Mac but it's not from Cupertino. This little pen-based Mac is from an outfit called ThePlaceForItAll.com. It isn't the first time someone has converted an iBook into a Mac tablet, that honor goes to Joseph DeRuvo Jr. who in 2004 created the first tablet Mac by cutting into an iBook and installing an extra 40GB drive, flash card reader, three FireWire ports and a kiosk touch screen from Troll Touch. His little piece of history had 27 bids and sold on eBay for US$1525." More.

OSx86 re-opens MacNN reports that the OSx86 project has restored its forums after legal pressure from Apple forced the website to take them down last week. "Confirming that Apple had served the site with a cease and desist letter that cited the DMCA (Digital Nillenium Copyright Act), the site took its forum offline as it debated its next move. A new note on the website said it has take down any offending links to the software patches that allowed users to run Mac OS X on generic Intel-based PCs, bypassing Apple's safeguards that tried to lock the operating system to its own hardware." Cello and G5 combine for new instrument VNUNet.org reports that an Apple Power Mac G5 and a cello are being combined to create a new kind of musical instrument which will be premiered in London this week. "Although not an instrument with a new a physical shape like digital age meta-trumpets or hyper-flutes, the cello/Mac combo marks an evolutionary step in the use of computers for music composition and performance."
