iPhone apps (potentially) appear Macenstein reports on the appearance of a new application that is "designed for the size of iPhone's touch screen" -- a potential marketing gimmick, but enticing nonetheless. "It seems to also support touch sensitive controls in addition to standard mouse click input methods. [...] Scenario Poker showing up on Apple?s Widget page and listing iPhone compatibility may not necessarily mean that Apple has blessed the application for the iPhone. It is possible this may just be a display of optimism on the part of Scenario Software. Apple has to date not shown any non-Apple applications/Widgets running on the iPhone." More.

How-To: play DivX and Xvid on your Apple TV engadget has instructions for pplaying DivX and Xvid files on the Apple TV. "The two biggest Apple TV limitations are the lack of codec support (like XviD, DivX, etc.) and not even having the ability to do basic surround sound like Dolby Digital 5.1. These issues were resolved almost immediately after the Apple TV was released, although the hacks were somewhat less than practical. Something as simple as getting your Apple TV to, say, sync and recognize your XviD movies as playable was no simple feat. Thankfully, that's no longer the case." More.

Widgets at Work, on Windows and Mac Business 2.0 points to the quality of Leopard's new Widget development tools. "Leopard has particularly good support for widget development that promise to make widgets useful tools, not just Web toys. I'd point especially to Apple's Dashcode, which makes widget development easier. So that's the news Om and I wanted to share with B2's readers - with the launch of Vista, and the advent of Mac OS X Leopard, now's a really good time to get into the widget business." More.
