IDC expects double digit PC shipment growth in '06 Investor's Business Daily reports that increased demand for low-cost and portable computers will spur another year of double-digit growth in PC sales in 2006, according to the latest figures from technology research firm IDC. "IDC on Tuesday raised its PC-sales outlook for the fourth quarter, as well as for the years 2005 and 2006, saying that portable-personal-computer sales and a trend toward lower-cost PCs are behind the revised forecasts. IDC now expects worldwide fourth-quarter PC sales to rise 15% from a year ago, up from a previous forecast of 12.6%; that level of growth should boost 2005's total shipments to 207.7 million units, or 15.8% over the 2004 total of 179.4 million, it said. In September, IDC forecast 2005 sales growth of 15.3%." More.
