iCal's Cost Profiled NewsFactor has published an editorial criticizing Apple's decision to limit iCal's full functionality to paying .Mac members. "Apple's .Mac services are an all-or-nothing proposition. Unlike Microsoft or Yahoo, Apple isn't offering stripped-down services such as basic Web e-mail for free while trying to charge for enhanced services." More.

PC Mag reviews the XServe PC Magazine has posted a favorable review of Apple's Xserve. "The Apple Xserve server, equipped with the new Mac OS X Server 10.2 operating system, defies categorization: It does many things well and at an affordable price. This rack-mountable (1U) server's flexibility comes from the combination of robust hardware, a great OS, and extensive software for almost every task you might expect from a server. The end result is a powerful file, Web, custom application, videoconferencing, and streaming audio and video server." More.

Microprocessor Forum Preview ExtremeTech has posted a preview of the Microprocessor Forum 2002, where IBM is expected to offer details regarding its new 64-bit PowerPC processor that incorporates Motorola's AltiVec. "We'll hear about IBM's new 64-bit PowerPC chip targeted at both desktops and servers. Apple's apparently working with them. It's based on IBM's high-end Power4 architecture, an 8-way superscalar SMP-capable design. Might this chip really be on Apple's roadmap?" More.
