Hands on with Google Desktop: Faster than Spotlight? Ars Technica takes a look at the newly released Google Desktop beta for Mac OS X, noting apparent speed advantages over Spotlight. "The search box works well?it's significantly faster at searching my files than Spotlight is when searching for the same files. [...] Results are displayed immediately underneath the search box in order of relevance, and the Quick Search makes an effort to learn your searching behavior as you continue to use it." More.

Best Buy to carry Macs in 200 stores The Boston Herald reports on Best Buy's announcement that it will carry Apple computers in 200 stores by this fall. More.

Intel to start 45nm production this year NewElectronics reports that Intel will begin production of its 45nm Penryn family of processors in the second half of this year. :The processors, which will feature enhancements to the Intel Core microarchitecture, will take advantage of Hi-k process technology. The hafnium based high k and metal gate transistor design brings higher performance and more energy efficient operation. First to be announced is the Quad Core Intel Xeon processor 5300 series, available in 2 and 2.33GHz versions." More.
