New and Noteworthy: Forbes: Options Probe Not Likely To Hurt Apple; Apple admits to MacBook discoloration
Forbes: Options Probe Not Likely To Hurt Apple Forbes reports that Apple Computers' announcement that an internal investigation has uncovered stock option grant irregularities -- including one to chief executive officer Steve Jobs -- isn't likely to cause significant damage to the computer giant, according to a new report by UBS. "We believe potential financial damage [and] penalties from any options irregularities are likely to be limited and cash flow would not be impacted," said Benjamin Reitzes, an analyst for UBS and the author of the report. More. "At issue are stock option grants made between 1997 and 2001. The grants made to Jobs were subsequently cancelled and did not result in financial gain." More.
Apple admits to MacBook discoloration ZDNet reports that Apple has apparently admitted that the discoloration on the wrist rests of some MacBooks (mostly white ones) is actually a manufacturing defect as opposed to a "cosmetic" problem caused by improper handling by the owner (whatever that means). "If you have the problem you should contact AppleCare and let them know and they will arrange to replace the top case with a new one that uses a different plastic formulation. It appears that the original MacBook plastics were too porous which led to staining after oils become embedded in it from prolonged use." More.
