For $999, a lifetime of Internet phone calls The Boston Globe reports on an upstart company named RNK Telecom Inc. that is offering consumers all the phone calls they want for the rest of their lives for US$999. "At current rates, compared to the $30-a-month cost of AT&T Corp.'s CallVantage Internet phone service, with the first month free, RNK's offer would not save a consumer money until after 34 months of service." OS competition good for IT An eWeek article speculates that the dialectic between open-source and proprietary software promises to be the most significant force in IT over the next decade. "Although proponents on either side may believe the optimal outcome is victory over the rival, including disappearance of the rival's business model, we think the best result is ongoing competition between proprietary and open-source software.
