Flash-based iPods predicted by Christmas Macworld UK covers predictions by an analyst that Apple will have a flash memory-based iPod on shelves by the holidays: "Thomas Weisel market analyst Jason Pflaum said: 'I recently spent two weeks in Asia meeting with a number of folks who are in a position to know details of SigmaTel's supply chain. Based on our industry contacts, we are confident that, one, Apple is planning to launch a flash-based player, and two, SigmaTel is the provider of controller chip for that device.'" More.

iPod shortages during the holidays? An excellent Metro Active story on the effects of music downloading on independent music stores also contains a quote from Steve Jobs about iPod holiday availability: "'We've taken our best guess, and we're building a lot, but the demand may be even larger...So if you want to be sure to get an iPod this holiday season, I'd get one soon.'"
