Apple's Mysterious Chip Moves BusinessWeek speculates on when Apple will put Core 2 Duo chips in portables. "In early spring, Intel is expected to release a new 'chip set,' code-named Santa Rosa, that will allow the Core 2 Duo processors to operate up to their full potential. I expect Apple will do another refresh of its line soon after the Santa Rosa chips become available." More.

Control your Mac media from a WiFi-enabled mobile device Geek.com reports on Kenbushi 6.2, an application that adds remote control media playback support from nearly any mobile device (including Pocket PCs, Nintendo DS, Sony PSP, and more) to an Apple Mac. "[...] it allows you to remotely control your Mac via Wi-Fi, so you can sit back and use your Mac as a home media center. The remote allows you to play photo slideshows on your device, set up Skipmarks (custom sections of movies) that you can hop through, and control the media playback on your computer." More.

Torvalds takes bite of Mac mini ZDNet reports that Linus Torvalds has picked up one of Apple's new Intel-based Mac minis to play with, but the Linux creator still prefers Apple's old PowerPC architecture for his primary desktop machine. "Torvalds said Apple had introduced problems by designing its machines in a way that made them different from standard desktop PCs. This had created difficulty getting common open source software (eg X-windows and the GRUB boot manager) to work easily, even using Apple's Boot Camp software to allow multiple operating systems to boot on the same machine."
