Can Intel-based Macs really save your university money? ZDNet, recounting that Wilkes University expects to save $150,000 over the next three years by switching from generic Intel-based PC platforms to the Intel-based Macs, asks whether or not the figure is valid. "If we take the simplest approach then, the $150,000 savings divided by 250 fewer workstations comes to $600 per workstation.  Gee, that just happens to be the retail cost of a Mac mini (sans keyboard, mouse, and monitor).  Add a genuine Apple monitor, keyboard, and mouse to a Mac mini and it is more expensive than a comparably-equipped iMac.  Go figure." Apple TV Achilles' heel -- no content Blogging Stocks opines that the prime weakness in the APple TV is a dearth of media. "The Apple Inc. iTunes store does not have many movies available for download. The count is a paltry 298 films. Competitors are well ahead in video content. The Bernstein count is 2,407 for the Amazon.com Inc. Unbox and Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s Walmart.com has 1,037." More.

Plans For DVR Capabilities on Apple TV? Seeking Alpha speculates that Automator actions found in the Apple TV's software indicate future DVR capabilities. "What's interesting about the picture above is that the published Automator actions for Apple TV include:
