Apple to announce fiscal results on Wednesday Apple is due to report financial results for its fiscal fourth quarter this Wednesday, October 18th after the market closes. Apple will provide live audio streaming its results using QuickTime. The live audio webcast will be accessible through Apple's web site at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/earningsq406/.

Jobs: Zune's wireless transfer a letdown In an interview with Newsweek, Steve Jobs downplays the impact Microsoft's Zune's wireless transfer capabilities will have on the portable music player market. "I've seen the demonstrations on the Internet about how you can find another person using a Zune and give them a song they can play three times. It takes forever. By the time you've gone through all that, the girl's got up and left! You're much better off to take one of your earbuds out and put it in her ear. Then you're connected with about two feet of headphone cable." More.

The Mac Mini PBX is Discovered Voxilla reports that A German company, 4S newcom, is pitching an IP PBX that is loaded on an Apple iPod Shuffle and runs on a Mac Mini. "The system, called iBlue, will begin shipping on November 6th, to coincide with the VON Europe conference in Berlin.  An entry level system will be priced at 2,999 Euros (about US$3,750) and consists of a Mac Mini (version not disclosed), an iPod Shuffle, and five snom300 IP telephones. The low-end offering licenses up to 250 users and allows 30 concurrent calls." More.

Apple Universal remote plans surface T3 reports that plans for an Apple-branded universal remote have surfaced, hinting at an even bigger push by the Mac maker into our living rooms. "Apple's patent documents show a touch screen remote crafted with typical minimalism, and a range of screen functions. The main example lists a TV, video tape player and video disk player as being under the control's command, as well as computer DVD player, computer MP3 player, stereo and home controls. Flow charts and diagrams in the document show the remote discovering devices it can control around the house, as well as showing information on what's playing, and how long it?s got left to run."
