Apple swallows SchemaSoft Apple has bought SchemaSoft, a developer of software components for facilitating digital information workflow. SchemaSoft's tools can extract data found in a variety of formats including those used by Microsoft Office documents, along with Quark and Adobe Systems' Portable Document Format. ZDNN reports "Those tools could be beneficial for Apple, which already offers such features in its iWork suite." More.

Appeals filed in Apple leak-of-information case Macworld UK reports that Mac Web sites PowerPage and Apple Insider have filed appeals in the lawsuit over Apple's trade secrets. "The appeal follows a judges decision on March 11 that reporters for three Mac Web sites should divulge the identities of confidential sources. The judge declared the journalists are not protected by the right to protect those sources." More.

iPod helps manage medical images The E-Commerce Times reports on the increasing number of physicians using iPods to store medical data including records, images, and more. ECT reports "Ratib and Antoine Rosset, M.D., a radiologist from Geneva, Switzerland, recently developed OsiriX, Macintosh-based software for display and control of complicated medical imaging data." Apple's Xserve "bears fruit" A Business 2.0 columnist wishes Apple would put more emphasis on what he sees as a burgeoning product: The Xserve. "If Apple manages to score bigger sales with the Xserve, IBM's decision to sell its PC division may very well begin to look foolish. IBM's rationale was that the PC business is becoming commoditized and has little in common with its other businesses. But that's flat-out wrong. Look at that monitorless Mac Mini. Is it a shrunken desktop tower? Not really. It looks much more like a baby Xserve, which is why I say Apple's strategy seems smart." More.
