Apple Stores: Better sales, some users waiting for Intel Forbes reports that analyst checks with Apple retail stores indicate very strong sales, but some reluctance to purchase Macs in anticipation of Intel-related announcements in the next few months. "Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster said that checks of Apple Computer specialist stores show that most are experiencing stronger holiday sales this year than last year. Specialist stores are third-party resellers that derive nearly all computer-related business from sales of Apple Macintosh computers. In a research report, Munster said that some specialist stores "are seeing evidence" that customers are holding off on buying new computers until the launch of Macintoshes based on Intel chips, 'but resellers that are seeing this trend say that it is limited to only a handful of customers.' iMac sales 'appear to be very strong in the quarter' and.75% of Apple specialist stores surveyed 'said that the iMac is selling better than they would have expected.'" More.

Viiv alive Wired News adds speculation to the already percolating notion that Apple's first Intel-based Macs will be based around Intel's Viiv technology. "Viiv computers will offer access to movies through subscriptions and pay-per-view and video-on-demand programming, not to mention music, games and photo editing. The entire package is tied together with a remote control, surround sound and automatic wireless networking with compatible electronic devices." More.
