Apple sells unit (PowerSchool) to educational publisher The Silicon Valley Business Journal reports that Apple is selling a business to and partnering with Pearson Education Inc. London-based Pearson will acquire PowerSchool, Cupertino-based Apple's student information systems division, and develop educational content for teachers and students compatible with iPod. "Pearson will also develop new services in which teachers will have access to podcasts on professional development to help with lesson preparation and provide ways to reach students struggling with specific content. Students will be able to load their iPods with study guides aligned with Pearson texts and listen to review notes to prepare for exams." More.

Another Windows Vista Delay: Windows of Opportunity for Apple? Playfuls speculates that a potential Windows Vista delay marks an opportunity for Apple. "Let's say Ballmer knows more than the rest of the people and that Microsoft will indeed decide to postpone again for February 2007 the release of the most famous OS in the history of the company. The consequences of such a decision may prove rather serious, and not only financially speaking. As people have gotten used to Microsoft's delays by now, a month or two more may not matter that much anymore. But Apple is getting ready to launch its next OS - Mac OS X 10.5, code-named Leopard - by the end of the year, and Steve Jobs mentioned at some point that it will be a tough competitor for Windows Vista. Mac OS X 10.5 is scheduled for release sometime in November or December and will be optimized for all types of Intel Macs ? so it's pretty much as important to Apple as Windows Vista is to Microsoft." Apple's latest cube: a mark of triumph, revenge The Associated Press says that Apple Computer Inc.'s latest cube-shaped creation - a stunning three-story glass structure marking the entrance to its new store on New York City's Fifth Avenue - reflects how far the Macintosh maker has come since its first embodiment of a hexahedron. "Apple's Power Mac G4 Cube computer was released in July 2000 as Chief Executive Steve Jobs was in the midst of turning around the Cupertino, Calif.-based company. The Cube was touted for its compact, industrial design and quiet engine, it but didn't sell well at $1,800. [...] Now, Apple's towering glass cube entrance - complete with a glowing Apple logo suspended from within - has emerged like a triumphant symbol next to FAO Schwarz and across the street from Bergdorf Goodman. The store, Apple's 147th, underscores the company's influence." More.
